Dear Friend,

I ended last month’s Growing Roots letter with a question to you: “Do you remember that you are a gift?” I hope you had moments throughout July that reminded you of this! I am still thinking about it, actually.

Last night, we hosted our book club. There were 15 people here (including Kim and me). It is a lot of work to prepare for such a large group— AND I love doing it! For me, preparing the food, the dishes that hold the food, the yard (because this is way too many people for our small house), and the plan for how we will discuss the book is NURTURING, CARE, and BEAUTY.

Then, welcoming people into our home, witnessing their sweet connections with each other and our pets (and us!), laughing about silly comments, and the ease of interacting with each other is INSPIRING and COMMUNITY to me.

Saying good-bye with warm hugs and tenderness is LOVE.

All of this tending to others meets precious needs of mine— This is INTERDEPENDENCE to me and it has taken decades to nurture.

Am I a gift? Yes.

Are my book club members a gift? Yes.

Are you a gift? Yes.

Together, we are INTERDEPENDENT, NURTURING, CARE, BEAUTY, INSPIRING, COMMUNITY, and LOVE.

May you know that you matter. May others matter to you.

In peace,

Mary Mackenzie
